The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation has begun reviewing plans to improve cleanliness, safety and visitor facilities at Rajodi Beach in Nalasopara West, following an inspection by Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj B. P. on Saturday. The civic administration is considering regular waste collection, dustbins, security infrastructure, emergency systems, toilets and organised parking at the beach.
During the inspection, the commissioner reviewed the condition of the beach and examined the functioning of the beach-cleaning machine being used by the municipal corporation. He directed officials to ensure regular collection of waste, install dustbins and arrange for the proper disposal of collected garbage.
The inspection comes after the civic body’s general body recently approved a proposal concerning cleanliness and safety arrangements at beaches across Vasai-Virar. The municipal administration has said it wants to develop the city’s coastline as a tourism asset while improving basic services for residents and visitors.
Vasai-Virar has several beaches, including Arnala, Suruchi, Bhuigaon, Rangao, Navapur and Kalamb. These locations attract visitors, but the civic administration has acknowledged that several beaches have faced persistent cleanliness problems. The corporation had earlier purchased a beach-cleaning machine using funds from the 15th Finance Commission, spending Rs 67 lakh on the equipment. Questions had subsequently been raised about beach maintenance because the machine was frequently reported to be non-functional.
The commissioner also discussed measures aimed at improving visitor safety and access. These include the construction of a watchtower, the establishment of emergency response arrangements and the provision of public toilets. Officials were also instructed to examine organised parking facilities in response to the increasing number of vehicles visiting the area.
The inspection team discussed beautification work for the surrounding area as well. Additional Commissioner Sanjay Herwade, Assistant Commissioner Jitendra Naik, the chief health inspector and sanitation workers were present during the visit.
The commissioner also spoke directly with local residents and tourists to understand their difficulties, requirements and suggestions. The administration said it would take necessary action based on the feedback received during the interaction.
The civic body has appealed to residents and visitors to cooperate with efforts to keep the beach free of plastic and protect the coastal environment. The administration said the development of clean and safe beaches would remain part of its effort to strengthen Vasai-Virar’s tourism identity.
