Bengaluru Central City Corporation Commissioner Jagadish G has directed officials to put safety, traffic-control and environmental measures in place at Halasuru Lake for Ganesh idol immersion, according to a report published by Deccan Herald on September 6, 2026.
The arrangements include installing adequate barricades to guide the immersion process and reduce inconvenience to the public. Officials have also been instructed to coordinate with the police department to maintain law and order, prevent overcrowding and regulate vehicular movement around the lake.
The measures are intended to minimise traffic congestion during the festival period, when large numbers of people are expected to visit the immersion site. The civic authorities have been asked to ensure that access and movement around Halasuru Lake remain orderly while the ceremonies are conducted.
The commissioner has also directed officials to develop a wetland at the lake to improve water quality and create a suitable environment for aquatic life. The report did not specify the proposed wetland’s design, area or completion date.
As part of the lake-protection measures, officials have been asked to clear debris and clean the stormwater drain leading to Halasuru Lake. Mesh screens are to be installed at rainwater entry points to prevent garbage, plastic and other waste from entering the water body.
The directions also cover ongoing development works at the lake. These include completing the walkers’ pathway, installing grills and finishing other related works within the stipulated timeframe so the facilities can be made available to the public.
The civic body has assigned officials to complete the arrangements in coordination with the police. The measures announced for Halasuru Lake therefore combine crowd and traffic management with steps aimed at controlling waste entering the lake during the immersion period.
