Subheadline: Maharashtra’s higher and technical education minister says the recruitment process at the state technical university will be completed within three months.
The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (DBATU) has received 3,601 applications for 120 faculty positions, with the recruitment process expected to be completed within three months, Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil said. The recruitment is intended to address vacancies at the university’s Lonere campus.
Mechanical engineering recorded the highest number of applications, with 762 candidates applying for 16 posts. Computer engineering received 444 applications for 14 positions, followed by electronics and telecommunications engineering, which received 365 applications for 13 posts. Chemical engineering received 363 applications for 16 positions.
The university received 361 applications for 14 information technology posts and 309 applications for 10 civil engineering positions. Electrical engineering recorded 264 applications for 16 posts. Applications were also received for posts in mathematics, physics, chemistry, English, petrochemical engineering and instrumentation.
According to the figures reported by Loksatta, mathematics received 180 applications for five posts, while physics received 201 applications for five posts. Chemistry received 156 applications for three posts, English received 116 applications for four posts, instrumentation received 65 applications for three posts and petrochemical engineering received 15 applications for one post.
Patil said measures were being taken to ensure that university results are declared on time and that students’ further education is not affected. He said efforts would also be made to resolve issues related to faculty recruitment, examination results and student concerns by December.
The minister expressed confidence that changes would be visible in the university’s functioning after December and that students would not have to transfer to other universities. The recruitment process is scheduled to be completed within the three-month timeline stated by the minister.
