Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has called for closer economic integration between Mumbai and Gujarat, saying the two regions could develop into one of Asia’s most powerful economic corridors. He made the remarks at a Mumbai roadshow for the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027, scheduled to be held in Gandhinagar from January 10 to 12.
Referring to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, Patel highlighted Gujarat’s coastline, ports, dedicated freight corridors, the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, GIFT City, its micro, small and medium enterprise network and skilled workforce as key investment strengths. He invited businesses from Maharashtra and other parts of India and abroad to invest in the state.
“Yahi samay hai, sahi samay hai,” Patel said, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s investment appeal. He also urged companies to “come to Gujarat, grow in Gujarat and grow with Gujarat”. Patel said the state was preparing to lead in renewable energy, green hydrogen, semiconductors and green manufacturing, and added that the government was focusing on implementing its policies on the ground.
The chief minister claimed that Gujarat contributes 8.2% of India’s gross domestic product, 17% of national manufacturing output and 25% of goods exports. He also said the state had set a target of becoming a $3.5 trillion economy under the Developed Gujarat 2047 vision.
Patel said four regional councils had been organised to support regional development and that six economic regional plans were being prepared. Gujarat Chief Secretary M. K. Das outlined the state’s industrial infrastructure, roads, airports and ports, and said about 40% of India’s total freight was handled through Gujarat, according to the report.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries Department Mamta Verma said Gujarat’s role in global supply chains was expanding. Industry representatives, including CII president R. Mukundan, RPG Enterprises vice-president Anant Goenka and Blue Star India chairman and managing director Vir Advani, also spoke about investment and business experience in the state. The Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027 will take place in Gandhinagar in January.
