Bengaluru’s KR Market entry fee has been introduced for goods vehicles and consignments brought into the market, with charges ranging from Rs 75 to Rs 350 for vehicles and Rs 5 to Rs 10 for specified categories of produce and meat products, according to a report by Vijay Karnataka.
The fee has been announced as part of the Bengaluru central city corporation’s plans for the development and maintenance of the historic market. The reported measures also cover civil works, market upkeep, the introduction of smart technology systems and collection of gate-entry charges. A tender process has reportedly been initiated for a 10-year period covering these activities.
Under the vehicle fee schedule, goods autos with three wheels will be charged Rs 75 per entry. Four-wheeled light goods vehicles will pay Rs 100, while trucks and vehicles with six or more wheels will be charged Rs 350. The fee applies to vehicles transporting goods into the market premises.
Separate charges have been fixed for goods brought into KR Market. Fruits, flowers, vegetables, leafy greens, peanuts, cotton, sweet corn, ginger, turmeric, banana stems, bamboo, cane, onions, potatoes, coconuts and garlic will attract a fee of Rs 5 per bag, sack or specified bundle. Banana stems are charged at Rs 5 for two pieces, while bamboo and cane are charged at Rs 5 per bundle.
Eggs, fish and other seafood, poultry and other meat products will attract a charge of Rs 10 under the reported schedule. The egg fee applies to one box containing up to 10 trays. Fish and seafood are charged at Rs 10 per box, while poultry and other meat products are charged at Rs 10 per tray.
The reported rules require traders, wholesalers, retailers, street vendors, commission agents and transporters bringing goods into the market to pay the charge before starting business. Payments can be made in cash or through digital methods, including the Unified Payments Interface, QR codes, point-of-sale machines, debit cards and credit cards.
The fee is described as applying to a single entry and exit. The report also states that where there is uncertainty over the classification of a vehicle, the service provider’s decision will be final. The corporation has reserved the right to revise, add or alter charges at any time.
The new system links access to one of Bengaluru’s major wholesale and retail market areas with a formal collection mechanism for vehicles and incoming goods. The report does not provide details on the expected revenue, the specific civil works to be funded or the implementation timetable for the wider redevelopment and smart-technology components. The reported tender and fee-collection arrangements will determine the next stage of the market-management process.
