Hyderabad KBR Park Flyover Gets Utility Work Review
HYDERABAD: Work linked to the KBR Park flyover is moving into a crucial coordination phase as civic and power authorities focus on shifting utilities, widening roads and fixing bottlenecks around some of Hyderabad’s busiest junctions.
A senior team from the Hyderabad police, Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) conducted a field inspection to assess electrical network shifting work connected with the flyover project. The inspection covered Road No. 45 and Film Nagar Junction, where existing utility infrastructure could affect construction and traffic movement. Officials agreed to carry out the shifting work in phases so that construction can progress without causing unnecessary disruption to commuters. The electrical work involves relocating power poles, overhead lines, cables and other infrastructure. Maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply will be an important part of the process, particularly in densely developed residential and commercial areas around Jubilee Hills and Film Nagar. A wider shift towards underground power infrastructure is also being planned at several locations. Existing 11 kV and 33 kV overhead lines are proposed to be converted into underground cable networks. Beyond supporting the flyover project, this can reduce conflicts between utility infrastructure and future road expansion.
For commuters, however, the impact will depend largely on how construction and traffic management are coordinated. The KBR Park area already faces restricted road space because of ongoing infrastructure work. Poorly timed utility shifting could create additional congestion if lanes are blocked without suitable traffic arrangements. Officials also inspected Journalist Colony, Jubilee Hills Checkpost and the KBR Park Main Gate. These locations were assessed for bottlenecks where vehicle speeds reduce and traffic can build up. Selective road widening has been identified as one way to create more continuous movement through the corridor. The inspection also highlighted road repairs and drainage as part of the wider mobility solution. Simply increasing road capacity may not be enough if damaged surfaces or inadequate drainage continue to affect traffic during heavy rain. The stretch between Film Nagar and Road No. 45 is therefore being treated as a priority area. Electric poles, water pipelines, drainage networks and other utilities obstructing planned road expansion are expected to be shifted in a coordinated manner.
The KBR Park flyover works also form part of the broader H-CITI infrastructure programme, which aims to address major traffic bottlenecks through flyovers, underpasses and associated road improvements. The immediate focus is now on completing utility relocation and road-related works while keeping traffic moving. For the KBR Park flyover works, effective coordination between civic, power and traffic agencies will be critical to prevent construction delays from becoming longer-term commuter problems. The project’s success will ultimately depend not only on the flyover itself but also on how well junction design, drainage, public utilities and traffic diversions are integrated around it.
