Hyderabad is set to gain a stronger air connection with Odisha as Star Air introduces a direct service to Bhubaneswar from September 4. The airline will also restore flights between Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda, adding 24 weekly operations across the two routes. The expansion could improve access for business travellers, students, families and tourists while strengthening links between Telangana and Odisha.
The new Hyderabad-Bhubaneswar service creates a direct link between two important regional economies. Bhubaneswar is Odisha’s administrative centre and an important gateway to the state’s cultural and tourism destinations. The new connection could make travel between the two cities more convenient for professionals and students. It may also support tourism flows between Telangana and Odisha, particularly for travellers heading towards Puri and Konark. Current booking data also shows Star Air’s direct Hyderabad-Bhubaneswar service operating on the route from September, indicating that the new connection is moving into regular commercial operations. The airline is also reinstating the Bhubaneswar-Jharsuguda service. The route is significant for western Odisha, where Jharsuguda serves as an important gateway for Sambalpur and surrounding areas.
The connection can support movement between the state capital and western districts. It also gives travellers easier access to industrial centres and destinations such as Sambalpur, Hirakud and other regional attractions. The route had previously faced a temporary suspension, making its return relevant for passengers and businesses that depend on regional air links. Both services will operate six days a week. Flights are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with Wednesday excluded from the operating schedule. The schedule provides flexibility for short business trips and leisure travel. It also creates more options for students and families travelling between the two states. For Hyderabad, the additional service strengthens its role as a southern aviation hub. For Odisha, the direct link can improve access to a major metropolitan market and employment centre.
