Hyderabad Airport Set for ₹13,800 Crore Expansion Boost
HYDERABAD: GMR Airports has announced a major ₹19,400 crore expansion plan for its Delhi and Hyderabad airports over the next five to seven years. The investment aims to increase capacity, modernise infrastructure and support the growing demand for air travel.
Hyderabad airport is expected to receive the larger share, with around ₹13,800 crore planned for expansion. The investment could increase its annual passenger-handling capacity from around 34 million to nearly 80 million passengers. The expansion will focus on additional terminals, airside infrastructure and other facilities required to handle rising passenger traffic. The project is expected to strengthen Hyderabad’s position as a major aviation hub. Delhi airport is set to receive around ₹5,600 crore for infrastructure improvements and capacity enhancement. The investment will support the airport in managing continued growth in domestic and international passenger traffic.
GMR plans to raise funds for the projects at the individual airport level through a combination of debt and equity. This approach will allow each airport to secure funding according to its specific expansion requirements. The company is also expanding businesses linked to airport operations, including commercial real estate, cargo facilities and maintenance, repair and overhaul services.
With India’s aviation sector witnessing sustained growth, the planned investments are expected to improve airport capacity and support future passenger demand. For Hyderabad, the proposed ₹13,800 crore investment could significantly transform the airport into a larger and more advanced aviation hub.
