Hyderabad Pilgrims Safe After Narrow Nepal Flood Escape
Thirty-one pilgrims from Hyderabad, including former DRDO Chairman Dr G Satheesh Reddy, are safe after narrowly escaping a flash flood near the Nepal-Tibet border during their Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
The group crossed the flood-affected area on Wednesday morning, only hours before the flash flood struck the Rasuwa-Gyirong region. The pilgrims later reached Saga in Tibet, where they are currently safe. The group had completed the Kailash Parikrama and reached Darchen before proceeding towards Saga. They are now exploring options to return to Hyderabad through the Tibet-China route instead of travelling back through the flood-hit Nepal route. A member of the group assured families in Hyderabad that all 31 pilgrims were safe and that no accidents or untoward incidents had occurred. The group is continuing its journey while following necessary safety precautions.
The pilgrims are expected to return through whichever route Chinese authorities keep open. Staff members accompanying the group are also providing support as they assess the safest available route. The incident comes amid flash floods that have disrupted road connectivity along the Nepal-Tibet border, leaving several travellers and pilgrims stranded or unaccounted for.
For the Hyderabad group, safely reaching Saga provides relief to families back home. Their return journey will now depend on the restoration of transport links and the availability of a safe exit route from the affected region.
