The Dharamveer Swarajya Rakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai Coastal Road Project’s eagerly anticipated North Route, spanning from Haji Ali to Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Marg, is poised for inauguration on Thursday, 11th July 2024, at 7 am.
This milestone marks a significant advancement in Mumbai’s infrastructure, following a meticulous inspection by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. During his inspection on Wednesday, Chief Minister Shinde underscored the project’s pivotal role in alleviating the city’s traffic woes. “The Mumbai Coastal Road Project continues to be a critical solution for Mumbai’s traffic congestion. As phases near completion, we’re opening sections to enhance traffic flow,” remarked Shinde, noting that 91% of the project is now finalized.
Operational from Monday to Friday between 7 am and 11 pm, the newly inaugurated stretch promises relief to daily commuters. Weekends will be reserved for completing remaining works, ensuring minimal disruption during peak travel times. Managed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the project encompasses the South Canal section from Shamaldas Gandhi Marg (Princess Street) Flyover to the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Bridge (Bandra-Worli Sea Link). The initiative aims to streamline Mumbai’s traffic by providing an uninterrupted coastal corridor.
Key officials including Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Eastern Suburbs) Amit Saini, and Chief Engineer Girish Nikam were present during Chief Minister Shinde’s inspection. The tour included insights into the phased opening strategy aimed at optimizing traffic management and infrastructure utilization. With the North Route’s launch, citizens gain direct access to the Rajiv Gandhi Sagari Setu (Worli-Bandra Sea Link) from Marine Drive, significantly reducing travel times across the city’s arterial routes. Commuters are advised to utilize alternative routes such as Dr. Annie Besant Marg and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan Marg to access Worli and Prabhadevi areas seamlessly.
