Hyderabad Water Network Upgrade Affects Several Areas
Hyderabad: Thousands of households across parts of Hyderabad will experience a planned 24-hour interruption in water supply as the city’s water utility undertakes critical maintenance at the Allabanda reservoir. The scheduled shutdown forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ageing water infrastructure and improve the reliability of urban water distribution across densely populated neighbourhoods.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has scheduled the maintenance from 6:00 am on July 6 to 6:00 am on July 7. During this period, engineers will carry out repairs to major leakages and replace key inlet and outlet valves at the 10-million-litre Allabanda reservoir located in Goshamahal. The Hyderabad water supply interruption will affect several residential and commercial localities, including Jirra, Indiranagar, Hari Darga, Kummarwadi, Tappachabutra, Akashpuri, Shibli Hills, areas surrounding Bilal Masjid, Godeki Kabar, Ziaguda, Karwan, Sabzimandi, Ganganagar, Osmania, Shivalal Nagar, Rahimpura, Puranapul, Chudi Bazaar, Shankar Bazaar, Jumeraat Bazaar and adjoining neighbourhoods. Water utility officials indicated that the maintenance is intended to improve distribution efficiency and minimise future service disruptions by replacing ageing components within the reservoir system. Infrastructure experts note that periodic maintenance of storage facilities and valve networks is essential for maintaining water pressure, reducing transmission losses and ensuring uninterrupted service in rapidly growing urban centres.
Hyderabad’s expanding population and increasing demand for reliable drinking water have placed greater emphasis on preventive maintenance of civic infrastructure. Planned shutdowns, while temporarily inconvenient for residents, are generally considered more effective than emergency repairs that can result in prolonged and unplanned disruptions.
