Several neighbourhoods across the metropolitan region recorded rainfall of varying intensity as thundercloud activity intensified during the evening. Peripheral and suburban locations received heavier showers, while gusty winds affected normal movement in many parts of the city. According to meteorological observations, both the city and airport weather stations registered temperatures exceeding 38°C before conditions turned unstable. Ongoing underground utility work in Ambattur had already narrowed available carriageways, and wet conditions further slowed vehicle movement, creating bottlenecks across connecting routes. Emergency personnel and traffic police were deployed to manage congestion and restore normalcy. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported and clearance operations were completed within a short period. Rainfall measurements from various monitoring stations showed significantly higher accumulation in some suburban pockets, underlining the uneven distribution that has become increasingly common during convective weather episodes.
For residents, the showers provided respite from prolonged heat and humidity, but the accompanying disruption reinforced broader concerns around urban preparedness.
