As infrastructure investments accelerate through metro expansion, new road corridors and suburban rail upgrades, planners increasingly recognise that fragmented bus operations continue to limit the effectiveness of the wider transport network.
At the centre of the proposal is the creation of an integrated bus transport system that would bring multiple transport undertakings onto a common operational platform. Authorities have constituted dedicated technical and policy groups to examine how services across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayandar, Kalyan-Dombivli, Vasai-Virar and Panvel can function as part of a unified framework.The technical review will assess opportunities to redesign overlapping routes, synchronise schedules and improve interchange between services operated by different agencies.
