Gurugram Plans Intersection Upgrade To Ease Traffic

Gurugram’s urban mobility network is set for targeted upgrades as authorities move ahead with plans to redesign two busy road intersections to ease congestion and improve traffic flow. The proposed Gurugram junction upgrade will focus on the Cyber Park intersection along Netaji Subhash Marg and the junction connecting Sectors 9 and 9A with Basai Road—two locations that have experienced mounting traffic pressure amid rapid urban growth. The initiative reflects the city’s effort to address bottlenecks on arterial corridors that connect major employment centres, residential neighbourhoods and metro transit routes. Urban planners say such upgrades are increasingly critical as Gurugram evolves into a dense commercial and residential hub within the National Capital Region.

Officials familiar with the project said the redesign of the Cyber Park intersection will focus on improving traffic movement along Netaji Subhash Marg, a key corridor linking the Millennium City Centre metro station with Subash Chowk. The stretch has seen persistent congestion in recent months, partly due to metro infrastructure construction along the route as well as heavy commuter traffic generated by nearby corporate offices. Traffic assessments conducted by infrastructure authorities indicate that existing entry and exit points at the Cyber Park junction open directly onto the main carriageway, disrupting vehicle movement and creating frequent slowdowns during peak hours. As part of the Gurugram junction upgrade, access points will be reorganised to allow smoother merging of vehicles between service lanes and the primary roadway. The project will also introduce new slip roads designed to streamline turning movements and reduce conflict points between vehicles. Pedestrian facilities, including footpaths around the intersection, are expected to be rebuilt to improve walkability in a commercial district that sees significant daily footfall from office workers and visitors. Urban mobility specialists note that redesigning intersections can often deliver quicker congestion relief compared to large-scale road expansions. Improved slip roads, dedicated entry and exit channels and pedestrian infrastructure help optimise the use of existing road space while enhancing safety for both motorists and pedestrians.

The second Gurugram junction upgrade will focus on the intersection connecting Basai Road with Sectors 9 and 9A. This location sits close to the alignment of the upcoming Gurugram metro corridor and also serves as an important link for traffic moving towards the Dwarka Expressway and surrounding residential sectors. According to officials, proposed improvements at this junction include new slip roads to manage traffic turning towards residential neighbourhoods and connecting routes leading to nearby arterial roads. A detailed design is currently being prepared by consultants to identify additional measures that could enhance traffic efficiency and reduce congestion during peak hours. Transport planners believe such targeted intersection improvements are increasingly necessary as Gurugram’s road network struggles to keep pace with rising vehicle volumes and expanding real estate development. Strategic upgrades at high-pressure nodes can significantly improve travel times and reduce traffic spillovers into adjoining residential areas.

If implemented as scheduled, the two junction redesigns are expected to become part of a broader effort by urban authorities to modernise Gurugram’s road infrastructure and support the city’s long-term mobility needs.
