Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) has emerged victorious in securing a significant five-year Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contract for the container facility at the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata.
The competitive bidding process culminated in APSEZ being awarded the contract, which entails the deployment of cargo handling equipment within seven months from the letter of acceptance (LOA) date, as per the company’s statement.
APSEZ’s successful bid is poised to enhance connectivity and operational efficiency at the dock, particularly augmenting linkages with transhipment hubs such as Vizhinjam and Colombo, slated for commissioning within the year. Offcial from of APSEZ, underscored the significance of the O&M contract in bolstering port infrastructure and logistics networks nationwide, highlighting the promising prospects in West Bengal.
Offcial affirmed, “The award of the O&M contract for container handling facilities at Netaji Subhas Dock to APSEZ underlines our commitment to develop ports and logistics infrastructure across the country and the potential we see in West Bengal.” Drawing upon over two decades of experience in efficiently managing container terminals, both domestically and internationally, APSEZ aims to deliver tangible benefits to customers and local communities.
Netaji Subhas Dock stands as the largest container terminal along the eastern coast of India, facilitating trade and commerce across a vast hinterland spanning West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, as well as the northeastern hill states, Nepal, and Bhutan. With approximately 0.63 million TEU handled in FY2023-24, the port serves as a crucial gateway for regional and international trade, particularly as the nominated port for the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade route.
Moreover, Netaji Subhas Dock boasts regular liner service calls from key hub ports including Singapore, Port Kelang, and Colombo, further cementing its pivotal role in global maritime trade networks.
