Gurugram Southern Peripheral Road Set For Signal Free Upgrade

Gurugram’s rapidly expanding southern corridor is poised for a major transport upgrade after authorities invited bids to build a signal-free stretch along the Southern Peripheral Road Gurugram, a key urban artery linking residential and commercial districts with the Delhi–Jaipur highway.

The project, estimated at around ₹755 crore, will introduce a high-capacity elevated corridor connecting National Highway-48 to Vatika Chowk. Transport planners say the move is aimed at reducing congestion along the heavily used east-west route that has become a critical mobility spine for South Gurugram’s fast-growing neighbourhoods. The proposed infrastructure includes a 4.2-kilometre elevated road with four lanes in each direction, supported by parallel service roads and secondary lanes to manage local traffic. Interchange connections and ramps at major intersections are expected to allow uninterrupted movement between the corridor and surrounding sectors.

Urban transport experts note that the Southern Peripheral Road Gurugram corridor has evolved from a peripheral connector into one of the region’s most strategic growth routes. The road links multiple high-density residential sectors with commercial hubs, Golf Course Extension Road, Sohna Road and NH-48, creating a key alternative to the already congested Delhi–Gurgaon Expressway. Over the past decade, large housing developments and mixed-use projects have emerged along the corridor, bringing thousands of residents and commuters to the area. This rapid growth has placed significant pressure on road infrastructure, with signalised junctions often causing bottlenecks during peak hours.

The planned signal-free design aims to address these challenges by separating through traffic from local vehicle movement. Elevated lanes will carry long-distance commuters, while surface roads will serve neighbourhood traffic, improving safety and reducing delays. Officials say the project will also support broader mobility planning across the city, particularly as Gurugram continues to expand toward its southern sectors. Efficient road corridors are increasingly critical for connecting emerging residential districts with employment centres in Cyber City, Udyog Vihar and the wider National Capital Region.

Urban planners also emphasise the need to integrate road upgrades with sustainable transport solutions. The Southern Peripheral Road Gurugram corridor has previously been identified as a potential route for metro connectivity, which could significantly reduce reliance on private vehicles in the long term. Transport infrastructure in the region is being planned alongside major expressways and logistics corridors that connect Gurugram with Delhi, Manesar and the broader industrial belt of Haryana. These projects are expected to reshape commuting patterns and support the city’s role as a major employment hub within the NCR. Authorities have indicated that once construction begins, the corridor could be completed within about 30 months.

For residents and businesses in South Gurugram, the proposed upgrade signals a significant step toward addressing traffic congestion in one of the NCR’s fastest-growing urban districts. If implemented effectively, the signal-free corridor could help improve mobility, reduce travel times and support more sustainable urban growth across the region.
