Mumbai’s pioneering Metro line, the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor, is set to commemorate a decade of seamless operations since its inauguration on June 8, 2014. With over 11 lakh trips completed and a remarkable punctuality rate exceeding 99%, Mumbai Metro One Private Ltd celebrates a decade of excellence in providing efficient and reliable urban transit services.
Spanning a length of 12 kilometres, the Metro Line 1 corridor encompasses 12 strategically located stations, serving as a vital link between the bustling neighbourhoods of Versova in the west and Ghatkopar in the east. Over the past decade, the fleet of 16 trains has collectively traversed an impressive distance of nearly 12.6 crore kilometres, averaging approximately 7.9 lakh kilometres per train.
Operating with precision and consistency, Metro 1 has emerged as a preferred mode of transportation for approximately 4.5 lakh commuters on weekdays. With a robust schedule of 418 daily trips and service intervals of 3.5 minutes during peak hours and 7 minutes during off-peak hours, the Metro line offers commuters a reliable and efficient alternative to the city’s congested local trains and road networks.
The elevated design of the Metro 1 corridor necessitated innovative construction techniques to minimise disruptions to Mumbai’s urban landscape. Despite these challenges, the project was executed seamlessly, reflecting the commitment to excellence and dedication to providing world-class urban transit solutions.
Metro 1’s impact extends beyond mere connectivity, significantly reducing travel times and enhancing commuter convenience. A testament to its efficacy, the average travel time between Versova and Ghatkopar has been slashed to just 21 minutes, compared to over an hour by road during peak hours.
