₹5,384 Crore Ahmedabad Metro Phase Unveiled by Modi

On September 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Extension, marking a significant milestone in the urban transport landscape of Gujarat. This development forms part of a two-day visit to the state commencing on September 15. The expansion of the metro system, which represents a substantial investment of ₹5,384 crore, aims to bolster connectivity between key urban and educational hubs in the region.

The newly extended 21-kilometre line will run from Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera to Gandhinagar’s Sector-1. This critical link will bridge major locations, including the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), and Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU). The project is expected to significantly enhance commuter convenience and streamline transportation across the state capital and its surrounding areas. Funding for the project has been sourced through loans from prominent international financial institutions—Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). This financial backing underscores the global confidence in India’s infrastructure development initiatives and highlights the strategic importance of the metro expansion in boosting regional economic growth.

The second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro not only promises to improve urban mobility but also aims to reduce traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions, aligning with broader environmental goals. With this new phase, the Ahmedabad Metro will extend its role as a critical infrastructure asset, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents and contributing to the city’s dynamic growth trajectory. This development is poised to be a game-changer for the region, integrating key business, educational, and residential areas, thereby supporting Gujarat’s ambition to be a leading economic and educational hub.
