Yerawada Station Joins Pune Metro Network

Pune is set to experience a notable enhancement in its public transport network with the official opening of the Yerawada Metro station on the Vanaz-Ramwadi corridor. Commencing from Wednesday, the station will welcome its first passengers, nearly five months after the initial launch of services on this route in March 2024.

The announcement by Maha Metro on Tuesday confirms that the Yerawada Metro station will become operational from the morning, with no alterations to the existing timetable. Safety inspections, conducted a few weeks prior, have cleared the station for service. The station had remained closed to facilitate critical construction work on its entry and exit points, following concerns from local residents about potential traffic disruptions.

To address these concerns, Maha Metro, in collaboration with the Pune Municipal Corporation, revised the station’s access plan. All necessary formalities for the station’s commercial operation have been completed, ensuring a seamless integration into the existing Metro network.

With the Yerawada station opening, the entire Vanaz-Ramwadi Metro route will now be fully functional, extending connectivity to Yerawada and integrating it with the broader Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Metro network. This development is expected to significantly benefit daily commuters, including students, professionals, and residents travelling to various destinations such as educational institutions and IT hubs.

The Yerawada station’s design features a facade inspired by the historic Dandi March, commemorating a pivotal event in India’s independence movement. This nod to heritage not only enriches the station’s architectural significance but also reinforces its role as a key transport link.

Maha Metro Managing Director expressed enthusiasm about the milestone, stating, “We are pleased to announce the opening of Yerawada Metro station, a significant step forward in our commitment to providing efficient and convenient public transport for the residents of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.”

Looking ahead, the Metro route extending from Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate is expected to be fully operational by next month. The completion of underground Metro services and station developments from Civil Court to Swargate is progressing, promising further improvements in urban mobility for Pune’s extensive metropolitan area.

This new operational phase of the Yerawada station marks a crucial advancement in Pune’s public transportation infrastructure, facilitating improved connectivity and supporting the city’s ongoing growth and development.
