Yellow Line Snag Delays Delhi Metro Services

New Delhi: Delhi Metro commuters experienced significant inconvenience on Tuesday due to delayed operations on the Yellow Line during peak hours. The disruption, which lasted from 5:15 pm to 6:12 pm, was caused by damage to a portion of the overhead equipment (OHE), specifically the catenary wire. This incident led to the regulation of train services between Sultanpur and Millennium City Centre Gurugram.

A metro official explained, “Train services were regulated between Sultanpur and Millennium City Centre Gurugram section of the Yellow Line from 5.15 pm to 6.12 pm on Tuesday due to damage reported to a portion of OHE (overhead equipment) known as catenary wire.” During this period, services on the remaining sections of the Yellow Line continued as usual. The delay prompted numerous complaints from commuters. One passenger posted on social media platform X, “When will service be normalised? Stuck between Ghitorni and Sultanpur.” The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) responded on X, stating, “Delay in services from Millennium City Centre Gurugram to Sultanpur. Normal service on all other lines.”

This disruption comes amidst ongoing work on a critical 490-metre section of the Janakpuri West-R K Ashram corridor of Phase IV. The alignment of this stretch crosses over Haiderpur Badli Mor metro station on the Yellow Line (Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre). The construction on this section, which reaches a height of approximately 28.4 metres—the highest in the entire Delhi Metro network—has necessitated a minor change in the first and last train timings on Sundays and Mondays. The DMRC had previously announced these adjustments, emphasizing the complexity and importance of the ongoing construction. The 490-metre stretch is integral to the expansion of the metro network, aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel times for commuters.
