The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has announced plans to establish a 35-kilometre green corridor along the Yamuna Expressway, leading to the upcoming Noida International Airport.
This initiative aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the region, promote environmental sustainability, and provide recreational spaces for local residents. The proposed green corridor will span from the Sector 17A entrance to the Noida Airport, featuring a 60-metre-wide road connecting to the Yamuna Authority sectors. Running parallel to the Yamuna Expressway, the corridor will be separated by a 100-metre-wide green belt, creating a visually appealing and ecologically balanced landscape. To achieve this vision, YEIDA has allocated an investment of ₹692 crore for the development of the green corridor.
The project will introduce a diverse array of plant species, enhancing the area’s biodiversity and aesthetic value. Additionally, the corridor will feature musical fountains, seating arrangements, sculptures, and theme-based landscaping, providing a pleasant environment for visitors and residents alike. The green corridor is designed to be pedestrian-friendly, with dedicated footpaths allowing local residents to access and enjoy the green spaces for leisure activities. This initiative aligns with YEIDA’s broader vision of creating sustainable, eco-friendly, and equitable urban spaces that prioritize the well-being of their inhabitants.
In tandem with the green corridor project, YEIDA is also undertaking the development of a fuel pipeline from Faridabad, Haryana, to Jewar. Bharat Petroleum has installed a 34-kilometre underground pipeline for aviation turbine fuel (ATF), connecting Pyala depots to the Noida Airport. The installation beneath the Jewar canal to the airport’s oil depots, spanning 1.2 km, is nearing completion. The fuel supply system is expected to be operational once the connection is established, ensuring a reliable energy source for the airport’s operations. The Chief Secretary has set June 30 as the deadline for completing all construction work, underscoring the government’s commitment to timely infrastructure development. This green corridor, coupled with the fuel pipeline project, signifies a holistic approach to urban planning that balances development with environmental preservation.
YEIDA’s initiatives reflect a growing trend in urban development, where sustainability and quality of life are prioritized.
