Yazaki, the $17 billion Japanese auto parts conglomerate, has expanded its operations in India with a new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Chennai.
This facility, spread across 3.16 lakh square feet, is designed to produce wire harnesses for a broad range of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India, reinforcing Yazaki’s commitment to sustainable and efficient production practices. The new plant is strategically located in Horizon’s Chengalpattu Industrial Park, an emerging industrial hub near Chennai, known for its robust infrastructure and connectivity. This facility is the third collaboration between Yazaki and Horizon Industrial Parks, a logistics platform backed by Blackstone, renowned for its innovative plug-and-play manufacturing and warehousing solutions.
This expansion is part of Yazaki’s broader strategy to enhance its manufacturing capabilities in India, complementing its existing plants in NCR and Hosur. The Chennai plant is expected to employ over 2,000 individuals, contributing significantly to the local economy and providing employment opportunities in the region. One of the standout features of the new facility is its focus on sustainability. The plant is designed to integrate rooftop solar power, aligning with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote green energy solutions. Chengalpattu’s growing prominence as an industrial hub is bolstered by infrastructural developments, including the new peripheral ring road connecting the area to Chennai Port. The development of the SIDCO industrial estate at Kodur Village is expected to further accelerate this growth, offering additional opportunities for industries to thrive.
