West Central Railway April Earnings Up by 8 Percent

West Central Railway (WCR) commenced the financial year 2025 with a strong performance, recording ₹739.84 crore in originating revenue for April.

This marks an 8% increase over the ₹686.54 crore earned during the same period last year, signalling growth in both freight and passenger segments. According to data released by the zone, goods traffic remained the largest contributor with ₹489.62 crore, followed by ₹208.48 crore from passenger services. Additional revenue included ₹14.61 crore from other coaching items and ₹27.13 crore from miscellaneous sources. General Manager Shobhana Bandopadhyay has been consistently directing revenue enhancement efforts, particularly by improving operational efficiency and passenger convenience.

The duration of experimental halts has been extended, and passenger train speeds have been ramped up as infrastructure upgrades gain pace. Punctuality and service quality remain top priorities. On the freight front, WCR is working to improve cargo movement efficiency by increasing average speeds, expanding sectional capacity, and enhancing infrastructure. Round-the-clock loading and unloading facilities are being provided at goods sheds, while emphasis is placed on developing Gati Shakti cargo terminals and sidings.

Further improvements include doubling and tripling of rail lines, reducing detention of goods trains, and boosting terminal operations. These initiatives are aimed at sustaining long-term growth in revenue while improving service standards across the zone.
