Waterlogging Disrupts Delhi Metro Shuttle Service

Heavy rainfall in Delhi on June 28 led to significant disruptions in metro and shuttle services, particularly affecting commuters to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) Terminal 1. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced the temporary closure of entry and exit points at Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25 Metro station due to severe waterlogging caused by the early morning downpour.

In response to the heavy rain, DMRC also suspended shuttle services from the Delhi Aerocity Metro station to IGI Airport’s Terminal 1. This suspension has impacted numerous passengers relying on this route for their airport commute. The temporary halt in services underscores the need for improved infrastructure to manage such extreme weather conditions in the national capital. Despite the disruptions at Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector-25 and the shuttle service, DMRC confirmed that metro operations on all other lines are running smoothly. The organisation is working to mitigate the impact of the heavy rainfall and restore normalcy as quickly as possible.

The interruption of metro and shuttle services highlights the vulnerability of urban transport systems to unexpected weather events. As the city continues to experience such disruptions, the importance of resilient infrastructure and efficient disaster management systems becomes increasingly evident. Ensuring minimal disruption to essential services during extreme weather is crucial for maintaining the city’s daily operations and commuter convenience.

“Due to heavy rains, entry/exit is closed at Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector – 25 Metro station. Also, the shuttle service from Delhi Aerocity Metro station to Terminal 1-IGI Airport has been suspended. Normal service on all other lines,” DMRC wrote on X.
