In a crucial update for residents of Thane, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced a 24-hour water supply disruption for parts of the city, scheduled for December 26-27, 2024. The affected areas, primarily served by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), will face a complete shutdown from 12:00 pm on December 26 to 12:00 pm on December 27. The disruption is part of planned maintenance work on the Barvi gravity channel, which runs from Katai Naka to Mukund.
The areas that will be most affected include parts of Mumbra, Diva, Kalwa, Majivada-Manpada, and Wagle Ward Committees, with certain localities experiencing complete water shutdowns. Specifically, all areas in Diva, Mumbra (except for Ward Nos. 26 and 31), and those under the Kalwa Ward Committee will face a full water supply halt. Additionally, localities such as Rupadevi Pada, Kisannagar No. 2 in Wagle Ward, and Kolshet Khalcha village under Nehru Nagar and Manpada Ward Committees will also be impacted. Post-restoration, residents should be prepared for low water pressure for up to two days. The TMC’s Water Supply Department has urged the public to use water sparingly during this period to minimize inconvenience.
The authorities are working to ensure the maintenance process is completed efficiently, and the water supply is restored promptly. The maintenance work on the Barvi gravity channel is necessary to ensure the long-term efficiency and reliability of the water supply infrastructure. In the meantime, residents are advised to make advance preparations and conserve water, particularly in affected areas. The Thane Municipal Corporation has appealed for the cooperation of all citizens to ensure minimal disruption and smooth restoration of services.
