Water Supply Disruption Hits Hyderabad: Emergency Repairs Cause Concern

Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) announced an unexpected halt in drinking water provision until 4 pm today, impacting several key areas including Gandipet, Kokapet, Narsingi, and Manikonda, among others.

This decision arises from imperative emergency repair work.Residents of Gandipet, Kokapet, Narsingi, Puppalaguda, Manikonda, Khanapur, Neknampur, Manchirevula, Shaikpet, Tolichowki, and Golconda are urged to make necessary arrangements until the water supply is restored. Such interruptions in water supply have become a recurrent issue in Hyderabad, with recent incidents reported on March 10, further exacerbating concerns regarding the city’s water infrastructure resilience.

Contrary to the prevailing challenges, Telangana’s Chief Secretary, Santhi Kumari, affirmed that the state currently enjoys adequate water reserves to address the seasonal demand. In a comprehensive review meeting on March 19, Kumari emphasised the paramount importance of expeditious repairs and uninterrupted water distribution across Hyderabad and other districts. The review meeting saw the participation of key stakeholders including Municipal Department Principal Secretary Dana Kishore, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Principal Secretary Sandeep Sultania, and GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose, among others. As Hyderabad grapples with recurring water supply disruptions, stakeholders are under mounting pressure to ensure swift resolutions and bolster the city’s water infrastructure resilience against future challenges.
