Waltair Railway Division Plans Rs 240 Crore Flyover to Improve Traffic Flow in Odisha

The Waltair Railway Division is set to build a major flyover at the Singapur road junction near Rayagada in Odisha, with an estimated cost of Rs 240 crore. The project, which has been approved by the Railway Board, aims to improve traffic flow where the Koraput-Rayagada railway line intersects with the Vizianagaram-Raipur mainline, a high-traffic area that currently struggles with delays due to frequent train crossings.

The new flyover will significantly reduce crossing times at the junction, enhancing both passenger and goods services, particularly in the undivided Vizianagaram district and surrounding regions. The project is expected to benefit freight trains transporting vital commodities such as minerals and cement, further boosting economic activity in the area. The Waltair Railway Division plans to complete the 5.5-km flyover by the end of 2027. Once operational, the flyover will increase capacity on the Vizianagaram-Raipur line, enabling the accommodation of five additional passenger trains. Currently, the line handles 25 to 30 passenger trains, and the flyover’s addition will ease congestion and improve operational efficiency.

In addition to the flyover, the Waltair division is also focusing on modernizing key railway stations. Significant upgrades are underway at Parvathipuram and Bobbili stations, including improved access points, foot over bridges, lifts, multilevel parking, and commercial complexes. These improvements, scheduled for completion within the next two years, aim to further enhance connectivity and passenger experience in the region. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Manoj Kumar Sahoo confirmed that construction work on the flyover will begin in the next financial year, marking a significant step in improving the region’s railway infrastructure.
