Chennai, India: VishnuSurya Projects and Infra Limited (VSIL), a prominent player in the Indian construction and infrastructure sector, has announced its foray into the waste management industry through strategic partnerships with Hitachi Zosen India Private Limited and AG Enviro Infra Projects Private Limited.
With extensive experience in infrastructure development, VSIL is poised to address the pressing issue of waste management in Chennai. The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) grapples with a substantial volume of solid waste daily, with only a fraction undergoing proper processing. The overloaded Perungudi and Kodungaiyur dumping grounds witness the disposal of over 5200 Metric Tonnes of waste, posing significant environmental risks. The city’s inadequate waste processing infrastructure is further exacerbated by its burgeoning population.
In response to these challenges, VishnuSurya Projects aims to implement sustainable waste management solutions in Chennai, leveraging its expertise alongside its esteemed partners. Through the signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), the collaborative efforts seek to secure and execute comprehensive waste management projects efficiently. The initial focus of this partnership is the execution of Greater Chennai Corporation’s Phase-1 plan for an Integrated Waste Processing Facility project, valued at Rs 1268 crores. Under the Design Build Finance Operate & Transfer model of Public-Private Partnership (PPP), the project will span a 20-year operations and management tenure, with complete funding from the private sector.
Hitachi Zosen India Private Limited, a subsidiary of the globally renowned Hitachi Zosen Corporation, brings invaluable expertise to the table, bolstering the consortium’s capabilities in waste management technologies. Meanwhile, AG Enviro Infra Projects Private Limited, a leading waste management company headquartered in Mumbai, adds its extensive experience and operational excellence to the collaborative effort. The strategic alliances forged by VSIL underscore its commitment to addressing critical urban challenges through innovative and sustainable solutions. By harnessing the collective strengths of its partners, VSIL aims to revolutionise waste management practices in Chennai and contribute to the city’s environmental sustainability and overall well-being.
Addressing the importance of tacking this challenge, Sanal Kumar, Chief Executive Officer, VishnuSurya Projects and Infra Limited said, “We believe sustainable solutions are crucial to address this issue of waste management. Through our partnership, we aim to leverage our combined expertise in Waste-to-Energy technology and contribute to achieving Chennai’s 100% waste processing target. By collaborating with the Greater Chennai Corporation, we hope to play a part in creating a cleaner and more sustainable future for the city.” The proposal by VishnuSurya Projects and Infra Limited along with their partners highlights their commitment to delivering an efficient and sustainable waste processing solution for Chennai.
