braces for significant population growth. With an expected population of 1.6
billion by 2047 and 1.67 billion by 2050, the country faces a pressing need to curb
municipal solid waste (MSW) generation and reduce the burden on landfills.
Currently, India generates 160,000 tonne of waste daily, with approximately 50
percent of it either ending up in landfills or remaining uncollected and
unprocessed. Projections indicate that MSW could soar to 165 million tonne by
2031 and 436 million tonne by 2050.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to play a pivotal role in waste management.
AI-powered systems can optimise waste collection routes, monitor landfill
conditions, and enhance recycling efforts, making the entire process more
streamlined.
