Servotech Renewable Power System Ltd. has secured a ₹15.8 crore contract to install a 4.1 MW on-grid rooftop solar project for the Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
This initiative aligns with Indian Railways’ commitment to integrating renewable energy into its operations, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint and promote eco-friendly transportation solutions. Under the terms of the contract, Servotech will be responsible for the comprehensive execution of the project, encompassing design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across multiple sites within the Waltair Division. The project is expected to enhance the energy efficiency of railway operations and contribute to the broader goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions in the transportation sector.
This development not only underscores the growing emphasis on renewable energy adoption in public sector undertakings but also highlights the potential for scalable solar solutions in India’s vast railway network. By leveraging rooftop spaces for solar installations, the initiative exemplifies an innovative approach to sustainable energy utilization without the need for additional land resources.
The successful implementation of this project could serve as a model for similar initiatives across other divisions of Indian Railways, fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility. Moreover, it reinforces the role of collaborative efforts between public entities and private enterprises in driving the nation’s transition towards a greener and more resilient energy future.
