Vaitarna Track Crack Causes 30-Minute Delays in Mumbai Trains

Long-distance train services entering Mumbai from the Western Railway line experienced significant delays on Tuesday morning due to a crack detected on the railway track near Vaitarna station. The technical issue, which was first reported at around 7:30 am, led to delays of up to 30 minutes for trains on the up-line.

Western Railway officials stated that immediate action was taken to clamp the affected portion of the track, ensuring the safe resumption of train movement by 8:00 am. However, trains were allowed to proceed only at restricted speeds, affecting the overall efficiency of services for a few hours. The track would be fully repaired during a scheduled block later in the day, according to railway authorities. Several long-distance trains coming into Mumbai were delayed by approximately half an hour, with commuters reporting slower movement and disruptions during the morning rush hour. In addition to the long-distance services, some suburban local trains were also affected, causing a ripple effect during the peak period when the stations were heavily populated.

Western Railway updated passengers via its official X handle (formerly Twitter), stating: “WR’s Mumbai suburban local trains and long-distance trains entering Mumbai are running late by 15-20 minutes due to a technical failure at Vaitarna Station.” The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by Mumbai’s local and long-distance train services, where even minor disruptions can have a considerable impact on commuters’ schedules. Railway authorities have assured that the issue will be addressed promptly to minimise further inconvenience to passengers.
