Vadodara Sees High Speed Rail Project Gains Momentum

The ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is demonstrating significant forward momentum, marked by the active deployment of a Track Slab Laying Car.

This advanced machinery is precisely placing precast track slabs along the designated alignment, a critical phase in the development of India’s first high-speed rail corridor. Following this meticulous process, a Cement Asphalt Mortar (CAM) Injection Car will undertake the crucial task of injecting cement asphalt mortar between the reinforced concrete track bed and the newly laid track slabs. This technological deployment underscores the project’s commitment to ensuring the stability and long-term resilience of the track structure, essential prerequisites for safe and efficient high-speed operations. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor, a 508-kilometre undertaking spanning Gujarat (348 km), Dadra and Nagar Haveli (4 km), and Maharashtra (156 km), is envisioned as a catalyst for economic growth and regional connectivity. The project encompasses 12 strategically located stations along its route, with 8 situated in Gujarat and the remaining 4 in Maharashtra. This high-speed link promises to drastically reduce travel times between two of India’s major economic hubs, fostering greater business and cultural exchange while offering a sustainable alternative to traditional modes of transport.

Recent milestones further highlight the project’s steady progress. In April 2025, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) successfully launched its 7th Open Web Girder (OWG) bridge near Vadodara. This impressive 70-meter steel structure spans across two Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) tracks and represents the 7th of 28 such steel bridges planned for the entire Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor. The construction and installation of these complex steel bridges underscore the engineering prowess and the scale of this transformative infrastructure project. The adoption of advanced construction methodologies, such as the Track Slab Laying Car, not only ensures precision and efficiency but also contributes to the long-term sustainability of the project. High-speed rail, by its very nature, offers a significantly lower carbon footprint per passenger kilometre compared to air and road travel.
