Uttarakhand Under Red Alert For Heavy Rainfall On Sunday And Monday

Uttarakhand, as the monsoon continues its active presence across the state, bringing intermittent sunshine, a red alert has been issued for heavy rainfall over the next two days, Sunday and Monday. Specifically, Bageshwar district is forecast to experience significant showers, while intense weather is predicted more broadly across the region. This severe weather has already caused disruptions, highlighting the need for caution as the monsoon is expected to reach its peak intensity, potentially leading to further damage and challenging conditions statewide.

The Meteorological Centre has taken the step of issuing a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across most parts of the state on both Sunday and Monday. During this period, districts are generally expected to experience thunderstorms and intense rainfall, frequently accompanied by lightning. Breaking down the specific warnings, Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar districts are under a red warning for extremely heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Pauri, Dehradun, and Tehri are under an orange alert, signifying a forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Further, a yellow alert has been issued for Almora, Haridwar, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, and Rudraprayag districts, also indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Dehradun, in areas like this city, the recent rainfall pattern has shown some moderation, with partial cloud cover interspersed with sunny spells. However, the possibility of sudden downpours remains, and temperatures have begun to rise again in these regions. Despite these brief lulls, the overall monsoon activity continues to pose significant risks across the hilly terrain.

Uttarkashi, the impact of rain-related disasters is already evident in certain parts of this district. For instance, in Uttarkashi district, eight villages are reportedly grappling with the effects of the heavy rainfall. These communities, situated in the Ganga and Yamuna valleys, have been isolated for the past twenty days due to disruptions and damage to connectivity caused by the rain. Moreover, the ongoing monsoon activity has led to temporary halts in pilgrimage routes, including the Amarnath Yatra, underscoring the widespread challenges faced across the state. Authorities are therefore advising residents near rivers, tributaries, and floodplains to remain vigilant, and for mountaineering expeditions to suspend their activities.

With a red alert in place for the coming days, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents and travelers to exercise extreme caution. The sustained heavy rainfall and associated risks underscore the critical importance of adhering to safety advisories. This preparedness aims to mitigate potential damage and ensure the well-being of all individuals across the monsoon-affected districts.
