Uttar Pradesh Upgrades Road Network

The Uttar Pradesh government has proposed the development of new ring roads and bypasses across five additional divisions. This ambitious plan underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing connectivity throughout the state.

Chief Minister recently advanced this proposal to the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, seeking federal approval to implement these crucial projects. The overarching objective is to extend the benefits of improved connectivity to all 18 divisions of Uttar Pradesh. Presently, ring road construction is progressing in 12 divisions, with the Lucknow division already completed. The latest proposal covers the divisions of Aligarh, Devipatan, Jhansi, Mirzapur, and Saharanpur, which are now awaiting sanction from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Significant advancements are evident in the Gorakhpur and Kanpur divisions, where ring road projects are actively underway. Additionally, phases of construction in Agra, Chitrakoot, Meerut, Prayagraj, and Varanasi have been completed, with further developments ongoing. The Basti division has secured approval for its ring road, and the Ayodhya division’s project has also received cabinet clearance. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Bareilly’s ring road is finalised, while work continues on the ring roads in Azamgarh and Moradabad divisions.

Beyond ring roads, the Chief Minister has advocated for the establishment of new bypasses in 14 districts. Presently, 53 districts in Uttar Pradesh are equipped with bypass facilities, with additional constructions underway in eight districts. The momentum is now shifting towards the remaining 14 districts, including Farrukhabad, Auraiya, Bulandshahr, Mainpuri, Bahraich, Gonda, Baghpat, Chitrakoot, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Sambhal, Kaushambi, Chandauli, and Shravasti. The expansion of Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure has been notable, particularly in national highways and expressways. Since 2017, the state’s network of national highways has nearly doubled from 48 to 93, with the total length increasing from approximately 8,000 km to nearly 13,000 km by 2024. This rapid development reflects a concerted effort to improve the state’s connectivity and facilitate economic growth.
