Uttar Pradesh has initiated a major digital infrastructure programme aimed at expanding broadband access across rural regions, with authorities estimating that nearly two million households could gain high-speed internet connectivity over the next few years. The initiative, titled Project GANGA, is designed to strengthen digital networks while creating employment opportunities linked to online services, digital entrepreneurship and rural connectivity.
The programme is being implemented through a partnership between the state’s policy and planning body and a private digital services company. Officials involved in the agreement say the collaboration seeks to build a broadband ecosystem capable of supporting education platforms, telemedicine services, online commerce and digital content creation across underserved areas.
