Uttar Pradesh Braces for Heavy Rain as IMD Issues Alert for Over 40 Districts

Uttar Pradesh is set to witness a significant weather shift as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for over 40 districts across the state. Several areas in western UP, including Saharanpur, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, and Shamli, are expected to receive heavy rainfall starting Monday morning. These regions, which border the hill state of Uttarakhand, experienced intense humidity over the weekend. The upcoming rain is expected to bring much-needed relief to residents who have been enduring stifling temperatures.

The weather alert coincides with the first Monday of the Hindu month of Shravan, a period that sees an influx of devotees known as Kanwariyas journeying toward holy destinations. The predicted rainfall is expected to ease their travel, especially after enduring scorching heat during the past few days. With clouds rolling in and temperatures expected to dip, the weather is likely to be more forgiving for pilgrims walking long distances with their Kanwars.

Districts such as Moradabad, Meerut, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, and Baghpat are also expected to see moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. While this change is welcomed by many, the IMD has also warned of potential complications, especially in flood-prone zones. The Ghar area of Saharanpur has been flagged due to the possibility of increased water flow from the Shivalik hills. Authorities have also issued advisories for caution along the Saharanpur-Dehradun route, where simultaneous rain in the hills and plains could cause waterlogging or flash flooding.

In Saharanpur and adjoining regions, local officials are preparing for a rapid rise in river levels. The district administration has urged residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant. The changing weather could disrupt transportation and daily routines temporarily, but overall, the rainfall is likely to bring some respite from the prevailing heatwave.

As monsoon advances deeper into Uttar Pradesh, both challenges and comfort lie ahead for citizens. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, especially in flood-sensitive zones. Meanwhile, residents can expect a cooler and wetter start to the week — a welcome change for most.
