Uttar Pradesh: Several districts including Kushinagar, Balrampur, and Shravasti have witnessed escalating flood situations, prompting urgent rescue and relief operations. The torrential rains have led to a significant rise in water levels in various rivers, causing floods and inundating several villages, exacerbating the plight of residents already grappling with the aftermath of heavy downpours.
In Shravasti district, at least 12 women and their children were rescued from floodwaters, underscoring the severity of the situation. The Gandak River in Kushinagar surged beyond the danger mark, submerging 13 villages in Khadda tehsil, while the Rapti River overflowed in Shravasti, affecting 18 villages. Prompt response teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), have been deployed to conduct rescue missions and provide relief to affected communities.
The Uttar Pradesh government reported successful rescues of 87 individuals from flood-hit areas in Shravasti and Kushinagar. Additionally, efforts are underway to evacuate stranded villagers and livestock, with ongoing monitoring of flood posts and embankments in affected districts to mitigate further risks. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed District Magistrates to assess crop damages and expedite compensation for affected farmers within 24 hours. The administration has mobilized medical teams, established relief camps, and ensured continuous operation of disaster control rooms to manage the crisis effectively. Furthermore, heavy rainfall in neighbouring Nepal has exacerbated the situation, leading to increased water discharge in rivers like Sharda in Lakhimpur Kheri district. Swift evacuation measures were implemented, relocating villagers to safer areas with provisions of essential supplies and medical aid.
In response to the evolving flood scenario, local authorities continue to monitor weather forecasts closely, anticipating heavy rainfall across several districts including Gorakhpur, Bahraich, and Gonda. The coordination between state agencies and community stakeholders remains pivotal in mitigating the impact of the monsoon deluge and safeguarding vulnerable populations.
