UP to Set Up 15 New Industrial Zones to Boost MSME Growth

In a strategic push to accelerate economic growth and generate local employment, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced plans to establish 15 new industrial zones dedicated to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Spread across 765 acres, these zones will be developed in 11 districts, including Aligarh, Firozabad, Kanpur Dehat, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Lalitpur, and Rae Bareli, among others.

The move aligns with the state’s ambitious goal of becoming a $1-trillion economy and achieving MSME exports exceeding ₹3 trillion within the next two to three years. By targeting key industrial districts and offering dedicated infrastructure, the initiative is expected to provide a robust ecosystem for entrepreneurs, improve regional manufacturing capabilities, and create thousands of new job opportunities.

According to a senior government official, the land parcels required for the proposed MSME estates have already been identified. “We have already identified land in 11 districts for developing 15 MSME industrial estates to boost manufacturing and create local job opportunities,” the official stated, underscoring the state’s intent to fast-track the implementation process.

Once operational, the new estates will offer a total of 872 industrial plots to interested investors and MSME units. These plots will be equipped with core infrastructure like roads, power, water supply, and connectivity, helping streamline the setup of manufacturing and service-based enterprises. The initiative comes at a time when MSMEs are playing a critical role in both employment generation and driving exports from India’s heartland.

The state’s MSME sector has already seen a significant revival post-COVID, with rising exports, better credit access, and increased policy support. The new estates are also expected to encourage women-led enterprises and youth startups, especially in traditional clusters such as glassware in Firozabad, leather in Kanpur, and handlooms in Rae Bareli.

Experts say that these new zones will not only stimulate regional industrialisation but also attract private investments from ancillary industries like packaging, logistics, and services. Additionally, the initiative supports India’s larger “Make in India” and “Vocal for Local” missions, contributing to resilient domestic supply chains.
