In preparation for the upcoming Panchkoshi Parikrama in November, the Uttar Pradesh government is accelerating the construction and widening of the four-lane Parikrama Marg in Ayodhya. The Public Works Department (PWD) has reported that 55% of the project has been completed, signalling significant progress as the major religious event approaches. This year, the Parikrama is expected to see an unprecedented turnout of devotees, largely driven by the recent opening of the Ram Temple.
The Panchkoshi Parikrama is an event of profound religious significance, attracting lakhs of devotees from across India. Recognising the increased footfall anticipated this year, the state government has allocated a substantial budget of Rs 473 crore to enhance the infrastructure around the sacred town of Ayodhya. The project, which involves the construction and widening of a 9-kilometre stretch of the Parikrama route, began in October 2023. The upgraded route is designed to provide devotees with a smoother and more accessible path during the pilgrimage, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving religious tourism infrastructure in the region. A spokesperson from the PWD provided an update on the progress, stating, “We are working diligently to ensure the timely completion of the project. With 55% of the work already done, we are confident that the road will be ready to welcome devotees during the Parikrama in November.” The spokesperson further emphasised the department’s dedication to meeting the construction deadlines, aiming to complete the project well ahead of the influx of devotees.
The Parikrama Marg project is a key component of the broader development initiatives being undertaken in Ayodhya, as the town continues to gain prominence as a major pilgrimage and tourist destination. The road, once completed, will not only facilitate the smooth movement of the large crowds expected during the Parikrama but will also serve as a lasting improvement to the town’s infrastructure, supporting year-round religious activities and tourism.
