The Uttar Pradesh government has announced the launch of over 250 development projects across 17 districts.
These initiatives fall under the Mukhyamantri Nagariya Alp Viksit Malin Basti Vikas Yojana, a scheme designed to address the basic infrastructure deficits that plague urban poor settlements. A financial outlay of Rs 20.88 crore has been sanctioned for the projects, with Rs 3.35 crore allocated for 166 projects in districts such as Lucknow, Prayagraj, Mau, Basti, Jalaun, Siddharthnagar, Moradabad, Sant Kabir Nagar, Jaunpur, Bulandshahr, and Maharajganj. Additionally, Rs 17.53 crore has been earmarked for 95 projects across Kanpur, Fatehpur, Rae Bareli, Kannauj, Azamgarh, and Kaushambi. These projects are expected to deliver much-needed upgrades to urban infrastructure, including the construction of better roads, enhanced drainage systems, and improved street lighting. This development initiative aims to bridge the gap between urban prosperity and the living conditions of the city’s underprivileged communities.
The government’s spokesperson highlighted the transformative impact these projects will have on slum dwellers, stating, “The completion of these projects will improve the living conditions of people in slums and strengthen urban infrastructure. Soon, residents in these areas will have access to better roads, drainage systems, and improved street lighting.” The focus on sustainable and eco-friendly urban planning is evident in the project designs, with an emphasis on creating resilient infrastructure that aligns with the broader goals of zero net carbon emissions and environmental sustainability.
