The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated the development of industrial corridors along six major expressways. This significant undertaking involves the acquisition of land, which is already in progress, marking a crucial step towards the state’s industrial transformation.
The planned industrial corridors will be established along the Ganga Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, the under-construction Gorakhpur Link Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, and the proposed Chitrakoot Link Expressway. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has issued directives to expedite this development, with the aim of bolstering economic growth and job creation in the state. These corridors will play a crucial role in the state’s industrial transformation, significantly contributing to its economic growth and development. The corridors will help in the creation of thousands of jobs,” stated an official spokesperson. The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is set to invest Rs 8,000 crore in the development of these corridors. Covering 29 districts at 30 strategic locations, the project spans over 5,500 hectares of land.
Land acquisition for the industrial corridors is advancing, with substantial progress made under the Chief Minister Industrial Area Expansion and New Industrial Area Promotion Scheme. To date, 1,812 hectares (approximately 4,477 acres) of land have been purchased across 25 locations, amounting to an investment of over Rs 3,200 crore. Significant procurement of land is underway along the Bundelkhand Expressway in Banda, Jalaun, Auraiya, Mahoba, Chitrakoot, and Hamirpur. Similarly, acquisition efforts are active in Meerut, Hardoi, Sambhal, Unnao, Amroha, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Pratapgarh, Hapur, Prayagraj, and Rae Bareli. land purchase activities are progressing in Sultanpur, Ghazipur, Ambedkar Nagar, Barabanki, and Amethi along the Purvanchal Expressway, as well as in Ambedkarnagar (for the Gorakhpur Link Expressway) and Etawah (for the Agra-Lucknow Expressway). However, the land acquisition process is yet to commence in Kanpur Nagar, Agra, Kannauj, and Firozabad along the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and in Lucknow for the Purvanchal Expressway. Despite this, UPEIDA remains committed to meeting the government’s target of acquiring 5,598 hectares, with 1,812 hectares already secured.
The most significant land acquisitions to date have been in the nodes of Meerut, Sambhal, Unnao, and Hardoi, where UPEIDA plans to prioritise development. These industrial corridors are poised to drive substantial economic growth, fostering an environment conducive to business and industrial activities. As Uttar Pradesh forges ahead with these ambitious projects, the focus remains on ensuring that the development of industrial corridors aligns with the broader objectives of economic development, job creation, and enhanced infrastructure. This initiative underscores the state’s commitment to transforming its industrial landscape and setting a benchmark for future urban and industrial planning.
