Union Minister recently conducted an inspection of the newly developed Cherlapalli railway station in Telangana, marking a significant advancement in regional transport infrastructure. Developed at a substantial cost of ₹430 crore, this satellite terminal station is poised to revolutionise rail connectivity in the area, with the capacity to manage 25 pairs of trains simultaneously and an impressive total line capacity of 19 lines following the addition of ten new tracks.
During his visit, Minister highlighted that approximately 98 per cent of the construction work at Cherlapalli is complete, with the final touches expected to be finished soon. The station is equipped with a range of modern amenities, including an executive lounge, waiting halls, sleeping pods, cafeterias, restaurants, ticket booking counters, lifts, escalators, and foot overbridges, along with EV charging points. These facilities reflect a commitment to improving the passenger experience, catering to the evolving needs of modern travellers. Minister also emphasised the government’s proactive approach towards railway development in Telangana, which encompasses various projects, including the construction of new lines and the electrification of existing tracks. Notably, 40 railway stations in the state are undergoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, showcasing a holistic vision for enhancing the rail network.
The introduction of the indigenously developed ‘KAVACH’ protection system across Telangana’s railway network aims to further enhance the safety of train operations, ensuring a secure travel environment for passengers. This development aligns with the growing need for robust safety measures in rail travel, especially as ridership continues to increase. From an environmental perspective, the Cherlapalli station incorporates several eco-friendly initiatives. The translocation of 500 trees, installation of rainwater harvesting pits, and the establishment of a sewage treatment plant are key components of this sustainable approach. Additionally, the station will feature solar panels and LED lighting, contributing to energy efficiency and a reduced carbon footprint. The compensatory afforestation of 5,500 trees further underscores the commitment to environmental stewardship.
The Cherlapalli station is expected to alleviate congestion at existing stations in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, such as Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda. This improvement is anticipated to significantly enhance travel convenience for local commuters, who have long struggled with overcrowding and limited services at these stations. Local residents express optimism about the station’s potential benefits. Many believe that improved rail connectivity will not only ease daily commutes but also foster economic growth in the region. The sentiment resonates with a broader hope that such developments will usher in a new era of sustainable transport solutions, aligning with the aspirations of a modern India.
