Transforming Bhagalpur Through Smart Infrastructure

Bhagalpur, a historic city in Bihar, is witnessing a significant transformation with a series of infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, urban amenities, and economic growth.

A major development is the construction of a new highway connecting Munger to Mirza Chowki via Bhagalpur, with an estimated investment of INR 5,000 crore. This project is expected to improve regional connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation.
In addition, the government has approved the construction of a new railway line and bridge from Vikramshila to Kataria, further enhancing the transportation network in the region. Bhagalpur is also implementing multiple smart city projects, including the development of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) to process 100 tonnes of waste per day. These initiatives aim to modernize urban infrastructure and improve the quality of life for residents.

Bhagalpur Junction railway station is set for redevelopment with an investment of INR 481.60 crore, aiming to transform it into a world-class transport hub with modern amenities. Furthermore, a new 52.81 km broad gauge line from Bhagalpur to Jamalpur is planned to enhance railway capacity and connectivity in the region.
Plans are underway to establish Vikramshila Central University in Kahalgaon, aiming to revive the region’s historical significance as a center of learning. These multifaceted infrastructure projects signify Bhagalpur’s commitment to evolving into a modern urban center, enhancing the quality of life for its residents, and positioning the city as a key player in Bihar’s development trajectory
