A Torrent Power employee was allegedly assaulted and prevented from leaving during a meter inspection in Borivali village in the Padgha area near Bhiwandi, after questioning a customer over suspected tampering with electricity meter wiring, according to a complaint reported by Loksatta. Padgha police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
The incident occurred when Torrent Power employees were inspecting electricity meters in the area on Thursday. During the inspection, an employee reportedly noticed changes to the electrical wires connected to a meter installed in an electrical panel of a building.
When the employee questioned the customer about the alleged alteration, an argument began. According to the complaint, the customer verbally abused and assaulted the employee. The employee was also allegedly held back and prevented from leaving the premises.
Other company employees intervened and secured the employee’s release. The employee then went to Torrent Power’s office, where discussions were held with company officials before a complaint was submitted at Padgha police station.
Police registered the case under Sections 115(2), 126(2), 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The sections cited in the complaint relate to offences including causing hurt, wrongful restraint and assault or criminal force.
Torrent Power operates electricity distribution and bill collection services in Bhiwandi city and rural areas of Thane district. The reported dispute arose during an inspection linked to the company’s electricity meter and wiring checks. The police case will now proceed on the basis of the complaint and the registered offences.
