Three Firms Compete for Mumbai Metro Line 2B Tracks
Three prominent infrastructure firms have submitted bids for the critical ballastless track work on Metro Line 2B.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has received technical bids from the participating companies for Contract CA-273, aimed at laying the tracks for a vital stretch between Andheri West and ITO Station on the Yellow Line. The Yellow Line, which spans 23.6 kilometres from Andheri West to Mandale, is a vital component of Mumbai’s future urban mobility framework. The new contract focuses on the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of standard gauge ballastless tracks across this corridor. The tender, valued at approximately ₹121.83 crore, was floated in March 2025, and the technical bids were officially opened on 22 April 2025.
Officials involved in the project confirmed that three companies—specialised in railway and metro infrastructure—have entered the fray. Following the technical evaluation, financial bids of the technically qualified participants will be opened to determine the final awardee for the contract. The track installation is a crucial element for the timely commissioning of Metro Line 2B, which is designed to relieve vehicular congestion on the Western Express Highway and other arterial routes. Once operational, the line is expected to significantly enhance east-west connectivity in Mumbai, providing an eco-friendly alternative to private transport and easing the city’s notorious traffic woes.
Interestingly, the MMRDA has already commenced trial runs on a 5.3-kilometre stretch between Diamond Garden and Mandale. This initial section includes five strategically located stations, demonstrating the authority’s focus on progressive commissioning to speed up operational readiness.
