Thane opens kasarvadavli flyover to ease ghodbunder road congestion and improve connectivity to mumbai and vasai
Thane has opened the first phase of the much awaited Kasarvadavli flyover providing relief to thousands of daily commuters on Ghodbunder Road. The project is expected to ease traffic congestion in the Gaimukh Wagbil stretch and improve direct access to the Mumbai Gujarat corridor via JNPT and Vasai.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority confirmed that the new flyover will enhance connectivity between Thane Mumbai Navi Mumbai Bhiwandi Vasai and Virar. The flyover has been designed to handle over seventy three thousand passenger cars daily with a two lane structure and a separate two by two lane underpass. The total ramp length measures seven hundred and twenty one metres. Officials added that the flyover will enable smoother intermodal travel by linking with Metro Line 4 which connects Wadala to Gaimukh. Once fully completed the flyover is projected to significantly reduce travel time between Waghbil and Gaimukh.
The project was inaugurated by Maharashtra transport minister Pratap Sarnaik who stated that his long standing demand for improved infrastructure in Ghodbunder Gaimukh and Kasarvadavli had finally been realised. He noted that only the left lane is currently operational and construction on the right lane will begin after the monsoon season ends. Sarnaik emphasized the broader benefits of the flyover noting its role in facilitating seamless travel from Thane to Borivali Vasai JNPT and Gujarat. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to developing essential infrastructure in the Thane region.
Ghodbunder Road serves as a critical artery in Thane district connecting both the Eastern and Western Express Highways. It links Kapurbawdi in the south to National Highway 3 and also connects to National Highway 8 towards Gujarat making it a strategic route for freight and passenger traffic alike.
