The directive follows mounting concerns over severe traffic congestion and the road’s deteriorating state, particularly at the Gaimukh Ghat section, a critical stretch connecting Thane to Mumbai and other regions. The decision comes after a thorough site inspection by the Collector, who identified significant damage exacerbated by monsoon-induced wear and tear.
The highway, a vital arterial route, has been plagued by potholes, uneven surfaces, and inadequate drainage, leading to frequent traffic snarls and posing risks to commuters’ safety. In response to these challenges, a multi-agency coordination committee has been established, comprising officials from the Public Works Department, Traffic Police, and local municipal corporations.
