Thane Announces 8-Hour Water Cut in Diva City on February 14 for Pipeline Repairs

Residents of Diva City in Thane are being warned of an 8-hour water supply cut on February 14, due to urgent repair work on a major water pipeline. The cut will last from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM as the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) addresses a significant leak in a crucial 500-mm diameter pipeline that has been causing issues in the area. The affected water pipeline is responsible for supplying water from Nilje to Diva under Ward No. 27 and 28 of the Diva Ward Committee. The disruption stems from a leakage near the Usargar Railway Culvert, located close to the Palava City compound. This leakage has led to frequent low-pressure water supply in the surrounding areas, prompting the TMC to take immediate action and carry out repairs to ensure a steady water supply moving forward.

The TMC’s decision to carry out urgent repairs on this vital water pipeline is intended to eliminate the ongoing water pressure issues in several localities. Once completed, the repairs are expected to significantly reduce water-related complaints in areas such as Aagsan, Betewade, Ganesh Nagar, Bedekar Nagar, Mhasoba Nagar, Shanti Nagar, Mumbra Devi Colony, Sabe Gaon, and Diva West. While the repair work is ongoing, water supply to Ward No. 27 and 28 will remain suspended for the full 8-hour period. However, once the repairs are finished and water supply is restored, it’s important to note that residents may still experience low water pressure for up to two days as the system stabilises. Residents of Diva City are urged to prepare in advance by storing sufficient water for the day. With the eight-hour water supply disruption scheduled, the TMC is asking for the cooperation of the community to help make the repair process as efficient as possible. The TMC has reassured the public that the repair work is essential for long-term improvements in the water supply system in the region.

The TMC is also focused on securing international support for environmentally sustainable projects aimed at improving water and waste management systems across the city. In line with this goal, the TMC has been in discussions with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for funding assistance in areas such as water recycling, sewage treatment, and solid waste management. Under its long-term infrastructure plans, the TMC has committed to setting up a 100 MLD (million litres per day) advanced water purification plant as part of a water recycling initiative. The project, estimated to cost ₹500 crore, aims to convert sewage water into high-quality reusable water, addressing the city’s growing water demands and sustainability goals.

The TMC is also exploring funding avenues through the central government and other international finance institutions for other essential infrastructure projects, such as new water pipelines, expanded sewage networks, and the rejuvenation of city lakes. These efforts align with the Maharashtra government’s broader goals to enhance urban infrastructure and create more sustainable, resilient cities. As Thane continues to grow and develop, the TMC’s focus on improving its water management systems and addressing critical infrastructure needs is clear. The eight-hour water supply disruption in Diva City on February 14 is a necessary step towards stabilising water distribution in the region and improving the long-term reliability of the city’s water supply. In the meantime, residents are advised to follow the TMC’s guidance and prepare accordingly for the temporary disruption. The TMC has promised that work is being carried out with the goal of providing a more efficient and reliable water system for the future.
