In a critical update for rail passengers in Mumbai, the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will undergo scheduled maintenance from 11:45 PM on December 14, 2024, to 4:45 AM on December 15, 2024. The maintenance is aimed at enhancing system efficiency through PNR compression, a process designed to improve overall performance and streamline operations.
During this maintenance window, several essential services will be temporarily unavailable. Passengers will not be able to access PRS services, including coaching refunds, IVRS, current reservations, chart displays, touch screen facilities, refund counters, and coaching refund terminals. The maintenance also extends to the internet booking portal for Mumbai PRS trains, which will be inaccessible during the shutdown. While the disruption will impact these services, the Railway Administration has clarified that passengers can still initiate refunds through Ticket Deposit Receipts (TDRs), in accordance with existing refund policies. This ensures that while bookings and certain transactional services are unavailable, passengers can still address refunds through alternative methods.
Railway authorities have requested the cooperation of passengers and commuters, acknowledging the temporary inconvenience caused by the shutdown. The brief downtime is deemed essential to optimise system performance and improve the long-term reliability and efficiency of the PRS platform, which is crucial to managing the heavy passenger load in Mumbai’s railway network. While the maintenance is expected to be completed swiftly within the allotted timeframe, passengers are urged to plan their travel accordingly, as the disruptions could cause some inconvenience during the specified period. The Railway Administration is committed to restoring all services promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to daily commuters once the maintenance work is concluded.
