Telangana to See Major Road Expansion by 2028

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday announced a massive infrastructure push for Telangana, unveiling national highway projects worth ₹2 lakh crore over the next three to four years.

Speaking at a public meeting in Sirpur Kagaznagar, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, he said these projects will double Telangana’s road network and significantly enhance connectivity. Gadkari highlighted that the state’s national highway length has grown from 2,511 km in 2014 to nearly 5,000 km today. “We have already completed works worth ₹1.5 lakh crore. In the next phase, ₹2 lakh crore worth of highway projects will be initiated. This will truly change the face of Telangana,” he said. Among the major initiatives underway are several Greenfield Expressway corridors designed to cut long-distance travel times:

Indore–Hyderabad Expressway (₹17,000 crore): Covers 136 km in Telangana, set for completion by March 2026. Will cut travel time between Indore and Hyderabad from 20 hours to 10.
Surat–Chennai Expressway: Telangana’s 78 km stretch is part of the 1,100 km route linking north to south India. Completion expected next year, reducing the travel time by 11 hours and distance by 300 km.
Suryapet–Devarapalli Expressway (₹8,000 crore): 164 km within Telangana. Will halve travel time between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam.
Nagpur–Vijayawada Expressway (₹16,000 crore): 401 km in Telangana. Travel time to drop from 13 hours to 6 hours.
Hyderabad–Panaji Corridor (₹20,000 crore): Includes a 90 km Telangana stretch. Travel time between Hyderabad and Goa will fall from 15 hours to 7.

Gadkari also announced enhanced connectivity for key pilgrimage towns like Bhadrachalam, Basara, and Medaram. Expansion of the Jagityal–Karimnagar highway is slated to begin soon. He further assured that under his ministry’s guidance, backward districts like Komaram Bheem Asifabad would receive focused attention in transport, water, and power development. In a push for sustainability, he urged citizens to adopt electric and CNG vehicles to reduce fuel costs.

The event was attended by Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, and Telangana Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, marking a strong display of central-state alignment for infrastructure advancement.
